The pharmaceutical companies Galenica and Olvos Science are the sponsors of α rare collective publication 

The presentation of the rare collective publication titled «Greek Pharmacists of Istanbul and their action from 1840 until today» was prefaced by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeo, during the 10th Pharma Point Meeting (Annual Pharmaceutical Meeting/ Exhibition) that was held in the Helexpo exhibition centre in Thessaloniki, on the 16th of October. This book of a great significant historical value was published with the sponsoring of the pharmaceutical companies Galenica and Olvos Science.

The author, Theodoros Kyrkoudis aims to show the important, pioneering and decisive presence of Greek Pharmacists in the Scientific Development of Constantinople, who were not just professional scientists, but most of all played a vital role in the history of Eptalofos.

The book is based in extensive bibliography referring to that period, as well as rare photographs and documents, additionally with the personal research of the author himself. Specifically, Theodoros Kyrkoudis visited the area in order to achieve the best information for his study. He selected all the particular pieces that concerned this research through personal interviews with the descendants of those pharmacists who lived that period of time. The special publication ««Greek Pharmacists of Istanbul and their action from 1840 until today» contributes in the display of the presence of the Hellenism in Constantinople constitutes a major historical deposit. Recognizing the importance and the historical weight of this book, Galenica and Olvos Science, have been very proud to contribute to this effort and decided to sponsor this special publication.

A few words about Theodoros Kyrkoudis

Theodoros Kyrkoudis was born in Elia, a village that is located in the area of Orestiada. He studied Library Science, Management and Economy of the Technological Educational Institutes in Thessaloniki, as a scholar. He is supervising the Medical Faculty Library of the Dimokritio University of Thrace, which is located in Alexandroupoli.The Thracian Centre of Thessaloniki has awarded him from for his study titled as “The contribution of Thrace’s to the liberation of the Greek Nation (1453-1923)”, that was published in 1992. This self-contained study was elaborated by the Dimokritio University of Thrace.The “Cultural Guide of Evros’ Prefecture” and the “History of Traianoupolis"are also listed among his books. Moreover, Theodoros Kyrkoudis collaborating with the publishing company Aigaio, has published a book titled “Evros, the last frontier: touring, cultural guide” (awarded by Greek Ministry of Tourism with the 1st prize, 2000). Some more of his publications are the following: “Triangle. Mesopotamia Evrou”, “Drugstores and Pharmacists in 19th century, Thrace”, etc. Furthermore, on a regular basis, Theodoros Kyrkoudis, publishes articles in Thrace’s newspapers and magazines.Theodoros Kyrkoudis has been a professor in the Open University in Komotini and in the Dimokritio University of Thrace. He has also been the president of the Union of Evros’ Cultural Institutions.
